Job summary

ROCHEM Americas is seeking an Applications Engineer based in the Syracuse, Rochester, or Buffalo region of New York. You will support the design, evaluation, and implementation of advanced membrane water and wastewater treatment systems, working with experienced engineers to assist with process design, system sizing, and technical proposals.

The role involves engineering documentation, customer support, and collaboration with engineering, sales, project management, and field service teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or physical science; master's preferred
• Strong knowledge of water or wastewater treatment processes
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Hands-on mechanical and/or electrical skills
• CAD experience; database familiarity is a plus

Responsibilities

• Evaluate customer applications for technical and economic feasibility
• Perform system capability projections and process modeling
• Conduct onsite bench and pilot testing
• Estimate system costs and prepare proposals and quotes
• Source and quote spare parts and consumables
• Collaborate with engineering and technical service teams globally
• Serve as key customer interface with timely communication and project clarity
• Travel domestically as needed for client sites and pilots

ROCHEM® recovers clean water from the toughest environments.

For more than 40 years we’ve designed and built high-pressure membrane systems, including our patented DTRO® technology, to treat landfill leachate and complex industrial wastewater. Our modular, field-ready systems are built for reliability, high recovery, and long service life, helping customers stay compliant, reduce disposal volumes, and keep their operations running.

Position Overview

The Applications Engineer supports the design, evaluation, and implementation of ROCHEM® Americas' advanced membrane water and wastewater treatment systems. Working alongside experienced engineers, this role assists with process design, system sizing, technical proposals, engineering documentation, and customer support for a wide range of industrial and municipal treatment applications.

This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with advanced reverse osmosis and membrane technologies while developing practical engineering skills through collaboration with engineering, sales, project management, and field service teams. Occasional travel may be required to support customer meetings, pilot testing, system startups, and commissioning activities.

This is a full-time, salaried position based in the Syracuse, Rochester, or Buffalo region of New York. Recent engineering graduates are encouraged to apply. The role reports to the Engineering Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Evaluate customer applications for technical & economic feasibility

• Source and Quote spare parts & consumables
• Technical position, with a strong sales aspect
• Collaborate with engineering and technical service colleagues globally to ensure seamless project execution
• Serve as key customer interface, ensuring timely communication & project clarity
• Complete additional tasks as assigned

Qualifications

• B.S. in Engineering or a physical Science, master's degree preferred
• Knowledge of water or wastewater treatment processes
• Strong chemistry background (especially inorganic chemistry)
• Very strong written and verbal communication skills
• Hands on mechanical and/or electrical skills
• Database experience beneficial
• CAD experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with Spanish or German is a plus

Travel Requirements

Occasional travel will be required domestically to visit our client sites.
