Job summary

Morris Great Lakes is seeking an Applications Engineer to coordinate, plan, design and install machinery in an industrial setting. You will perform CNC programming/setup, develop turnkey proposals, and train customers on CNC machining centers and lathes, with 80/20 travel to customer sites.

The role requires a technical degree and 3+ years of machine programming experience, plus Fanuc and Mitsubishi control know-how. Okuma & Tsugami familiarity is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 2 year Technical Degree in Manufacturing Technology preferred.
  • 3+ years of machine programming and set-up experience (Okuma/Tsugami experience preferred).
  • Fanuc control experience.
  • Mitsubishi control experience.
  • CAM programming experience.
  • G & M Code programming experience.
  • Tolerance for travel and overnight stays (Home/Customer Sites -> 80/20 split).
  • Willingness to be trained into other machines beyond Okuma & Tsugami.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting pre-sale activities and reviews including customer visits, evaluation of opportunities, machine assessment and recommendations, part processing recommendations and development of turnkey proposals.
  • Making accurate cost estimates, writing engineering reports, and interpreting plans and specifications.
  • Programming and setting up CNC lathes, CNC vertical or horizontal mills.
  • Developing/ implementing custom demonstrations and training customers in the safe set up and operation of CNC machining centers, lathes, and/ or multi-tasking machines.
  • Possessing and maintaining an in-depth technical knowledge of product lines represented by the company.

Summary of Responsibility

As an Applications Engineer, you will be responsible for coordinating, planning, designing and installing machinery or equipment in an industrial environment using state-of-the-art instruments, advanced computer systems and knowledge of programming and engineering. Mental and Physical Requirements
  • Must be highly mobile, able to access all areas of the premises.

  • Able to perform bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and lifting of moderate to heavyweight material up to 50 lbs. with assistance from equipment or other employees.

  • Vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to work responsibly and professionally in dynamic job sites that may involve tight timelines, changing priorities, and interaction with customers and team members.

Safety-sensitive Requirements
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods while servicing equipment.

  • Must work in tight spaces or awkward positions, including accessing equipment interiors and elevated areas.

  • Must have strong hand–eye coordination and fine motor skills required for precise electrical, mechanical, and diagnostic work.

  • Must work in industrial environments, with exposure to noise, lubricants, coolants, metal chips, and other manufacturing conditions, while consistently wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
