Responsibilities

  • Perform Linux Application Administration for multiple websites.
  • Manage some vendor relations for the applications development team.
  • May serve as project lead or supervisor on some projects.
  • Provide technical direction on some projects.
  • Supervise, monitor, develop, configure, enhance, and maintain multiple application systems.
  • Document requirements for new applications development and enhancements for existing applications.
  • Collaborate with the Applications Development Team Lead to design, develop, enhance, and maintain custom and third-party applications in support of agency operation.
  • Ensure all assigned applications development projects are completed according to agency standard and within established deadlines for maximum benefits to the agency according to formal project plans.
  • Coordinate with Help Desk, Network, and Security staff to address any issues with applications and development.
  • Works directly with end-users, stakeholders, and management to analyze business and technical requirements and ensure solutions align with agency objectives and operational needs.
  • Develops, tests, debugs, documents, and implements software applications using established development standards, tools, and methodologies.
  • Develop and deliver training material for non-IT staff as required.
  • Take responsibility for technical education using products and services made available through the agency.

The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is the state's lead economic and community development agency. MDA recruits new companies to Mississippi, helps existing companies expand and provides support to foster growth and new opportunities in a variety of areas, including energy, small and minority business, trade, film, retiree recruitment and more. Additionally, MDA attracts millions of visitors to the state each year through Visit Mississippi, the tourism division of the agency. The Applications Developer II is responsible for applying knowledge and experience in application development and support to code, test, debug, document, implement, enhance, and maintain software applications. This role performs moderately complex assignments that may require the development of new or improved applications, processes, or techniques. The position requires the ability to understand client needs and technical requirements in order to determine and implement appropriate solutions. The incumbent will act with independence and may be accountable for a significant portion of a large project or application enhancement.
