Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking an Applications Developer 2 to support the TraCS system used by public safety agencies. You will maintain TraCS modules and forms, connect TraCS to RMS and CLEAN, troubleshoot using the TraCS SDK, monitor automated processes, and document technical details.

Qualifications

  • One year as an Applications Developer 1 or Computer Programmer 3 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title)
  • Four years of information technology experience that includes two years of experience in applications development or applications maintenance
  • Two years of information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field
  • A bachelor's degree in any information technology field
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Job description

The Applications Developer 2 position with the Public Safety Information Technology Delivery Center allows you to support systems used every day across the Commonwealth. You will take part in improving tools that help public safety agencies do their jobs. This role offers steady challenges and opportunities to make a real impact on important technology services.

This position supports complex applications used throughout public safety operations and works on both form development and system interfaces. The role requires technical problem solving and steady attention to detail. As an Applications Developer 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • System Maintenance: Maintain and improve Traffic and Criminal Software (TraCS) modules and forms using XML, VB.NET, and related tools
  • Interface Support: Assist with connections between TraCS and external systems such as Records Management Systems’ (RMS) and Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN)
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoot issues using the TraCS Software Developer Kit (SDK) and other development tools
  • Process Monitoring: Check automated processes and take action when they fail
  • Documentation: Create and update technical documents to support system understanding
  • Special Projects: Participate in project work and support continuity plans during emergencies
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report in-office on Thursday and Friday each week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Applications Developer 1 or Computer Programmer 3 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of information technology experience that includes two years of experience in applications development or applications maintenance; or
  • Two years of information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field; or
  • A bachelor's degree in any information technology field.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
