Job summary

Metallus in Canton, OH is offering a Full Time – Summer 2027 Metallurgical Internship designed to give real-world metallurgical experience. You will perform investigations, generate reports, and prepare metallographic samples under supervision.

The program emphasizes hands-on microscopy, steel quality evaluation, and professional development workshops. Eligibility includes full-time student status, a minimum GPA of 2.5, and at least 30 credit hours completed by Spring 2027.

Qualifications

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
• Must have completed 30 or more credit hours by Spring 2027.
• Must be a full-time student attending an accredited two-year or four-year college/university.
• Preferred majors: Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related.

Responsibilities

• Perform metallurgical investigations or failure analyses to determine root cause of defects and steel quality issues.
• Produce quality investigative reports and material related documentation.
• Prepare metallographic samples (sample sectioning, mounting, polishing).
• Utilize optical and scanning electron microscopy to evaluate metallurgical features.
• Analyze material for steel cleanness and characterization.
