Job summary

Hyperion is seeking an Application Engineer to drive growth in the product segment by optimizing offerings, working with customers on special items, and implementing pricing strategies.

You will collaborate with sales, production, and vendors to meet customer requests, improve lead times, and expand ecommerce product lines, while providing technical and quality support to internal teams and external customers.

Summary

The Application Engineer will be responsible to support driving growth and increasing gross margin of the segment by helping optimize our product offering, working with customers and internal stakeholders on requests for specials (e.g. non-stocked items like pre-forms), implementing winning pricing strategies, facilitating ecommerce sales, and helping with analysis and research in the development of new products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Optimize the product line by completing item setup for special/non-stocked items that customers request, while also looking for opportunities to rationalize slow-moving or unprofitable items from the product line.
• Enhance Hyperion’s offering of preform carbide rods by working with sales, internal production, and vendors to accommodate customer requests while delivering best-in-industry lead times.
• Execute pricing plans by maintaining price lists and providing analysis highlighting opportunities to optimize prices on specific products, geographies, or market segments. Additionally, find ways to streamline the process of getting prompt responses to customers on quotes and availability of special items.
• Increase the breadth of Hyperion’s ecommerce carbide rod product offering by making sure items are setup correctly, descriptions are accurate and updated, and new items are added as available.
• Support new product development process by providing business case analysis, collecting Voice of the Customer (VOC) input, defining winning specifications, creating reference drawings, and being a main point of contact for the production unit.
• Troubleshoot and find solutions to challenges that arise with orders for key accounts.
• Coordinate activities between the commercial team and the production team that support plans to drive growth per the segment strategy.
• Build a robust understanding of application requirements and the competitive landscape by interacting directly with customers, end-users, and the sales team.
• Provide technical & quality support by interacting with external customers, sales, engineering and manufacturing teams.

Education and/or Work Experience

• Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in commercial or engineering roles; cemented carbide or related industry experience strongly preferred.
• BS/BA in engineering or business required.
• Ability to understand, simplify and communicate strategic initiatives and develop cross-functional tactics to achieve them.
• Empathy for the customer, understanding the customer’s world and the role that Hyperion plays in solving the issues of the customer.
• Ability to take initiative and drive work forward with moderate supervision and guidance.
• Strong understanding of Hyperion technology and how it is applied by the customer, including quickly learning new market applications.

Technical Skills/Physical Requirements

• Experience utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Movex/Info M3 experience a plus.
• Experience creating reports and utilizing data in business intelligence software programs, like Business Objects and PowerBI
• Ability to create 2-dimensional product drawings to customer specifications in AutoCAD or similar program.
