Job summary

A leading automation solutions provider is seeking a Sales Application Engineer in Rockford, Michigan. This role involves working closely with the Sales Team to customize solutions for customer needs. The successful candidate will manage project lifecycles and demonstrate product features while maintaining technical integrity. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience is preferred, along with strong problem-solving and technical skills. Full-time employment with approximately 25% travel is required.

  • Familiarity with construction sites is a plus.

Job description

The sales application engineer works with the Sales Team to provide solutions for customer needs. Provides technical expertise to customize quotes/projects to ensure proper costing. Uses creativity in applying engineering principles to provide customer solutions. Talks through the pros and cons of different solutions for each application with the customer to help identify best value for final solution.

Essential Job Functions
  • Create customer specific layouts and quotes for equipment solutions.
  • Follow IPM standards and processes to oversee all phases of project lifecycles; initiation, planning, execution and closure.
  • Define technical approaches to projects including the correct application and research of OEM equipment as part of the overall automation solution.
  • Determine project scope requirements at time of quote and successfully communicate the project details of what was sold at time of customer PO to IPM internal teams thru Application Sign Off.
  • Demonstrate product features with presentations or on-site review.
  • Research and find multiple OEM and technical solutions for automation – both IPM produced and OEM produced.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • 1-3 years Project Management or Application Engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience in project costing and estimating preferred.
  • Technical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, edrawings.
  • Familiarity with construction sites.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with an Engineering background is preferred or equivalent experience.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel is required; approximately 25%.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Training on Hazardous Materials.
