Job summary

System One, Inc. is seeking an Application Engineer for a 9-month contract onsite in Bridgewater, NJ. You will run customer lab demonstrations using application equipment and support on-site visits, ensuring setup and production of materials on pilot equipment.

The role emphasizes strong analytical skills, hands-on coating experience, and the ability to communicate results clearly to customers and internal teams. Some travel is possible, and extension or permanent conversion may occur.

Qualifications

• BS ChE, Materials Science, Chemistry, or equivalent hands-on coating experience.
• Experience with web handling, coat weight control, tension, coating methods, and web drying.
• 1–3 years lab experience, preferably in Packaging.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong project management.

Responsibilities

• Runs customer lab demonstrations using application equipment and supports on-site customer visits.
• Ensures setup and production of material on assigned pilot coater/laminator.
• Calibrates and safety-checks lab equipment and coordinates changeovers.
• Prepares technical reports and contributes to internal databases.
• Supports root cause analysis and corrective actions for product complaints.
• Writes internal reports and presents to internal teams; trains personnel during tours.
• Communicates with Sales, account managers, and project teams; coordinates lab methods.
• Leads harmonization of laboratory test methods and safety/5S compliance.

Job Title: Application Engineer

Hours: M-F 8am-5pm
Pay Rate: $35.00/hr
Type: 9-month contract, Potential for extension or conversion to permanent

Responsibilities

• Runs customer lab demonstrations using application equipment and/or pilot coater/laminators and support on-site customer visits. Ensure the efficient setup and production of material on assigned pilot coater/laminator.
• Runs and ensures laboratory, pilot, and application equipment are calibrated and safety checked in compliance with local regulations as well as standardizes and develops new test methods. Responsible for coordinating pilot equipment changeovers, minor maintenance, and upkeep of pilot equipment.
• Completes Customer Lab Work Requests, technical reports and reporting within our technical database
• Completes lab work to support Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action on product complaints
• Prepares internal reports and makes presentations to internal work group or department.
• Participates in report outs to customers as well as training of internal and external personnel in area of responsibility by supporting customer tours
• Directly communicates with the field Sales, Key Account Managers, Application Engineers or project team with the ability to communicate directly with customers
• Leads ongoing harmonization and administration of laboratory test methods
• Leads by example in Safety and 5S, completing all necessary site requirements.
• Move materials as necessary in the performance of duties

Requirements

• BS ChE, Material Science, Chemistry, OR equivalent hands-on coating expertise in coatings/adhesive technology required.
• Mechanical / application equipment aptitude. Experience in web handling, coat weight variables, tension control, coating methods, and web drying strongly preferred.
• 1-3 years laboratory experience; experience in the Packaging industry strongly preferred.
• Experience in troubleshooting complex / difficult problems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent project management and organization skills.
• There will be minimal travel required for this role
