Job description

Now Brewing – Senior Application Developer, Data & Analytics Hub

From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.

This is a team where technology, analytics, and strategy converge to deliver impact at scale. The engineering team sits at the core of our Data & Analytics organization, an org dedicated to transforming how data and AI empower decision‑making across the company. Our mission is to integrate intelligence and insights into all operational and decisioning processes across the enterprise through data and AI forward capabilities that drive agility, productivity and efficiency at scale.

This role contributes to that mission by building and evolving a unified internal web platform composed of reusable frameworks, shared components and modern applications which enables secure, governed, and scalable data operations for business teams across the enterprise. As a full stack Senior Application Developer, you will contribute to the design, development and long‑term evolution of the platform, modernize internal tools, improve end‑user workflows, and establish engineering standards that elevate the entire ecosystem.

Who you are...
  • A hands‑on senior full stack engineer with deep modern web development expertise
  • A natural problem solver who thrives on tackling complex challenges and finding innovative solutions.
  • Passionate about building modern, intuitive user experiences backed by scalable services.
  • A technical leader who drives best practices, standards, and continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable working across the stack—from UI/UX to APIs, databases, and cloud deployment.
  • Energized by the opportunity to modernize internal tools and frameworks at scale.
As a Senior Application Developer, you will…
  • Web Framework Design & Development
  • Collaborate on the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of internal web framework supporting full‑service data operations.
  • Build modern, responsive, and accessible user interfaces aligned with Starbucks design and usability standards.
  • Develop scalable APIs and backend services using modern frameworks and architectures.
  • Translate UX designs and mockups into high quality, maintainable, production ready code.
  • Ensure solutions adhere to Starbucks security, privacy, and data governance requirements.
  • Build and maintain shared UI components, libraries, and services that can be adopted across multiple applications.
  • Partner closely with designers, data engineering, architecture, and devOps to deliver cohesive, performant platform experiences
Technical Leadership & Standards
  • Demonstrate deep expertise in web technologies and guide teams in adopting best practices and tooling standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve coding standards and development processes and help drive adoption across the team.
  • Provide technical consultation on complex programs and initiatives.
  • Act as a thought leader for web development frameworks, platform patterns, CI/CD, and cloud deployment best practices.
  • Represent engineering in cross functional forums with business, architecture, QA, and operations teams.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced developers on a highly collaborative team, fostering a culture of quality, ownership and technical excellence.
Operational Excellence & Support
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify and implement long‑term fixes for software and business process issues.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for assigned systems, frameworks, and projects.
  • Collaborate with devOps, platform and security teams to ensure reliability, scalability, observability and performance of production systems.
  • Build tooling, automation, and internal utilities that improve developer experience and reduce overhead for engineering teams.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the enterprise to ensure delivered solutions improve productivity and end‑user experience.
We’d love to hear from people with…
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Strong hands‑on full stack web development expertise (advanced proficiency).
  • Deep understanding of React design patterns, including component architecture, and modular code organization
  • Strong experience with Node.js and Express for API development.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and GraphQL for designing and consuming APIs
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Hands‑on development experience with document‑oriented and relational database systems (e.g., MongoDB, Cosmos DB, SQL Server or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of UI/UX and usability principles, responsive design, accessibility, and front‑end performance optimization.
  • Experience working with component libraries and front‑end frameworks.
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for web applications using tools like Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
