Job summary

Thorlabs in Newton, NJ is seeking an Application Development Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a growing software team responsible for custom application development, integrations, automation, QA, DevOps, low-code solutions, and enterprise support.

You will work with IT leadership and stakeholders to prioritize work, mature development practices, and evolve the company's application capabilities, with occasional duties at other Thorlabs locations.

Qualifications

7+ years of experience in application development, enterprise apps, or system integration.
3+ years leading technical teams or in a team-lead role.
Hands-on experience designing and integrating software using APIs and Microsoft technologies.
Experience with agile software development methodologies, SDLC practices, testing, release management, CI/CD, documentation, and production support processes.
Experience working across cross-functional technical and business teams, including developers, QA, DevOps, business analysts, vendors, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Lead day-to-day operations of the Application Development team and delivery.
Coach and support team across development, QA, integrations, automation, and low-code development.
Establish team cadence, accountability practices, and regular status updates.
Coordinate application development work intake, prioritization, resource planning, and delivery tracking across projects.
Perform hands-on software development, application integration, troubleshooting as needed to support delivery.
Design, develop, and support integrations using APIs, Azure services, Azure Functions, OData services, Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and related Microsoft technologies.
Oversee and contribute to design, development, testing, deployment, and support of application solutions with quality, documentation, security, and maintainability.
Promote software development lifecycle best practices, including requirements docs, code reviews, testing, release management, CI/CD, and post-implementation follow-up.
Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements, manage timelines, and improve processes for successful delivery.
Align priorities and strengthen team operating discipline.
