Job summary

Michigan State University in East Lansing seeks an Application Administrator to support departmental and enterprise applications within the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services. The role will begin on-site and transition to a hybrid model after onboarding and probation.

You will maintain and troubleshoot applications, manage user access, collaborate with operations and development staff, and contribute to documentation and training.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge equivalent to a four-year college degree; one to three years of related IT experience or equivalent.
  • Experience managing enterprise-level computer applications and providing user support.
  • Knowledge of databases and SQL; familiarity with Transact and StarRez is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot divisional applications, including after-hours issue resolution.
  • Provide user support, role definition and access management coordination.
  • Collaborate with operations and development staff to solve problems and implement solutions.
  • Configure/change manage: develop features, reports, patches and upgrades.

Working/Functional Title

Application Administrator

Position Summary

The Application Administration team provides technical and administrative support for departmental and enterprise applications for the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services at MSU.

This position is part of a hybrid work team and will start fully on-site and transition to hybrid after on-boarding and a probationary time period.

Reporting to the Application Administration team manager, the Application Administrator will primarily perform the following duties:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot divisional applications. Includes after hours response for issue resolution.
  • Provide user support, application role definition & access management coordination.
  • Collaborate with operations and development staff to solve problems and implement solutions.
  • Configuration/change management. Develop and implement new features, custom reports, system patches and upgrades.
  • Documentation, training, business continuity planning.

Working with Unit Operations and Digital Strategies and Services staff, the Application Administrator will be expected to acquire knowledge of the business use of specific applications in the university context. Scheduled hours and on-site/remote schedule may vary depending upon the needs of the business units.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

A proven ability to work with end users and a good customer-service attitude. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience managing enterprise-level computer applications; knowledge of basic computer operations, operating systems. Database experience and knowledge of SQL desired. Experience with Transact and StarRez applications. Knowledge of network server operations a plus.
