Job summary

Summit Appliance, a division of Felix Storch, Inc., seeks an Appliance Testing Lab Technician in the Bronx, NY for a short-term assignment starting September 14, 2026. The role focuses on final testing of our new 120-volt range, recording time and temperature measurements as the test cook runs menus.

The position is temporary for roughly three to four months, Mon-Fri 10am-2pm, offering $25/hour. Ideal candidates have an associate degree in science/engineering or related field and strong data

Responsibilities

• Test kitchen and equipment setup.
• Set up and test ranges with temperature sensors and an energy meter.
• Print daily test plans, recipes and SOPs.
• Communicate recipe needs and confirm ingredient availability ahead of testing so the engineering manager can place orders.
• Testing and measure ingredients for repeatability.
• Follow recipes and record deviations as needed.
• Collaborate with testing cook and engineering manager to ensure recipes are followed and issues are flagged.
• Data logging and record keeping of initial conditions and test metrics.
• Record and log measurements including temperatures, times and energy data.
• Prepare reports summarizing results and log photos in the network folder.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Appliance Testing Lab Technician

We are seeking an appliance testing lab technician to assist with the final testing phases of our new 120-volt range. You will be taking and recording measurements of time and temperature while our test cook prepares various menus on the range.

Job Type: This is a temporary assignment beginning on September 14,2026. We anticipate the project lasting three to four months. The hours will be Mon - Fri, 10am-2pm

Duties & Responsibilities

• Test Kitchen and Equipment Setup
• Set up and test ranges with temperature sensors and an energy meter
• Print daily test plans, recipes, and SOPs
• Communicate recipe needs and confirm ingredient availability ahead of testing so the engineering manager can place orders.
• Testing
• Measure all ingredients precisely to ensure test repeatability
• Follow recipes carefully, and record any deviations as needed.
• Work closely with the testing cook and the engineering manager to ensure recipes are followed, and immediately flag any issues to the engineering manager
• Data Logging and Record Keeping
• Document the initial conditions prior to any testing, including reference photos and include dates.
• Record ongoing test metrics such as ingredient weights, starting temperature (where needed), ambient conditions, preheat times, boil benchmarks, and cooking times.
• Measure the cooked food temperature to verify doneness, capture results, and log the internal temperature, oven thermal data, total energy consumption and final visual outcome photos.
• Reporting and Database management
• Summarize the test results, thermal and energy data in formal reports
• Log all test results, observations, metrics, and photos into a designated network folder

Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: An associate college degree in any science, math, engineering or related field, and/or experience in a technical position
• Excellent computer skills- MS Excel, MS Access, and MS Word
• Works well as part of a team
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to organize and prioritize work for timely completion
• A critical thinker with strong attention to detail
• Able to take initiative and work interdependently, adjust to shifting priorities, communicate effectively, and work under defined rules and regulations
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Rate of pay: $25 hourly
