Job summary

New Mexico Supreme Court in Santa Fe, NM is recruiting for a full-time Appellate Attorney Assistant (U) to support the judges and clerks in developing and maintaining procedural materials, forms, and jury instructions. The role emphasizes precise legal writing, thorough analysis, and collaboration with committees of judges and attorneys.

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong analytical and drafting skills, knowledge of NM and federal law, and the ability to manage complex projects

Qualifications

• Must have strong knowledge of United States and New Mexico constitutions, federal and NM law.
• Experience with appellate procedure and court rules preferred.
• Excellent analytical, writing, and editing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal research and recommendations to the court
• Draft memoranda, dispositions, and orders for appeals
• Screen petitions for jurisdiction and procedural prerequisites
• Review briefs, motions, and docketing statements
• Assist with policy development and court procedures to ensure compliance
