Job summary

The New Mexico Supreme Court in Santa Fe is seeking a full-time Appellate Attorney – Associate (At‑Will) or Appellate Attorney – Assistant (At‑Will). The role involves supporting the Court with complex legal work, rulemaking, and appellate duties across civil and criminal matters.

The ideal candidate has strong legal research and writing skills, experience in court operations, and a commitment to public service. Prior judicial branch experience is preferred; NM licensure is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an ABA-accredited law school and NM bar admission.
• At least five (5) years of experience for Associate or three (3) years for Assistant or equivalent law clerk.
• Strong research and writing skills; familiarity with appellate procedure and court rules.
• Experience supporting judges, staff, or court operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the court with its rulemaking authority and committee support.
• Screen pro-se petitions for jurisdiction and prerequisites.
• Draft opinions, orders, and memoranda for appeals, including complex matters.
• Review briefs, motions, and court records to aid decision-making.
• Provide staff support for administrative and legislative matters.
