Job summary

Hawthorne Lane in Washington, DC seeks an experienced Appellate Paralegal to join a close-knit team supporting appellate and Supreme Court matters. You will work directly with partners, manage cases from start to finish, and perform high-level cite-checking, research, and memoranda preparation.

The role requires a bachelor's degree and at least five years of paralegal experience, with ABA certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; ABA certification preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years appellate/paralegal experience.
• Experience with federal/state appellate litigation.
• Strong writing, proofreading, and legal citation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level paralegal support to appellate and US Supreme Court cases, supporting all stages of appellate litigation.
• Prepare, format, review legal documents including briefs and submissions.
• Manage filings, deadlines, and case developments with organized documentation.
• Conduct expert-level Bluebook cite-checking and legal research using Lexis, Westlaw, PACER; summarize findings.
• Stay up to date on Supreme Court and Appellate Court rules and regulations.
• Oversee and delegate tasks to project assistants and temporary staff; maintain clear communication.
