Hawthorne Lane in Washington, DC is seeking an experienced Appellate Paralegal to join its distinguished practice. You will support appellate and Supreme Court work, manage filings, and coordinate with partners from inception to disposition.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree with at least five years of paralegal experience; ABA certification is preferred. Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Pro, Relativity, PACER, and Bluebook cite-checking is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of five years' paralegal experience.
• ABA-accredited Paralegal Certification preferred.
• Experience in appellate/complex litigation is desirable.
• Strong Bluebook citation-checking and legal research skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level paralegal support to attorneys specializing in appellate and US Supreme Court cases across federal and state courts.
• Prepare, format, and review briefs, presentations, summaries, and other court submissions.
• Manage and organize filings, deadlines, and case developments with clear documentation.
• Conduct expert-level Bluebook cite-checking and legal research using Lexis, Westlaw, PACER, and related tools; summarize findings clearly.
• Stay updated on Supreme Court and appellate court rules and regulations.
• Oversee and delegate tasks to project assistants and temporary staff, maintaining clear team communication.
