The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) provides high-quality, patient-centered care as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, the APP assesses, diagnoses, treats, and manages patients within their scope of practice and area of specialty. The APP is responsible for delivering evidence-based care, promoting positive patient outcomes, maintaining professional and regulatory standards, and supporting the clinical, educational, and operational goals of the department and organization.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Advanced Practice Professional(APP) has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of Dermatology patients. The APP coordinates involvement of medical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive plan for the patient, and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and coordinates disposition decisions and discharge planning/follow-up (as applicable). The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students.
Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such service may include, but are not limited to.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR NURSE PRACTITIONER
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- 1. Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’sDegree in Nursing.
- 2. National Certification by one of the recognized APRNCertification Centers.
- 3. Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in WestVirginia.
- 4. BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
EXPERIENCE:
- 1. Dermatology experience preferred.
- 2. Eligible new graduates will be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- 1. ACNPs and FNPs considered.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- 1. Bachelors Degree in Medical Sciences OR Masters Degree inMedical Sciences OR Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) required.
- 2. Certification by the National Commission for the Certification ofPhysician Assistants required.
- 3. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board ofMedicine.
- 4. BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
- 5. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at the discretion of thedepartment.
EXPERIENCE:
- 1. Eligible new graduates will be considered.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- 1. Completes consults and/or emergent/evaluations.
- 2. With the collaboration of Dermatology faculty or by following established clinical Guidelines and Protocols, orders additionaltests or consults as deemed appropriate.
- 3. Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
- 4. Consults and communicates with clinical and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in the evaluations of patients.
- 5. Performs succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and comments findings in medical record.
- 6. Facilitates patient discharge and/or disposition by coordinating appropriate services and tests for follow-up appointments in the clinic (as applicable) or location of necessary care arrangements.
- 7. Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum of their educational experience and certification.
- 8. Recognizes emergency situations and initiates effective emergencycare.
- 9. Assists in the collection of outcome measures (asapplicable).
- 10. Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making by the identification, evaluation and management of the individual Dermatology needs of patients.
- 11. Demonstrates the ability to utilize equipment in a safemanner.
- 12. Bases decisions made/actions taken on the relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings.
- 13. Utilizes teaching/learning theory and appropriate teachingstrategies in the provision of education to nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients, families and the community.
- 14. Promotes an environment that facilitates learning by responding to appropriate patient/family preferences, priorities and readinessto learn.
- 15. Updates own knowledge base throughout the year.
- 16. Completes all identified clinical competencies.
- 17. Serves as a resource person for staff caring for dermatologypatients.
- 18. Provides educational programs to professional and paraprofessional personnel in area of expertise.
- 19. Participates in community programs, distribution of literature, as appropriate in area of expertise.
- 20. Documents the plan of care, interventions, evaluations and disposition plans in a clear and concise manner for every patient visit in the patient’s medical record following approved hospital/UHA policies and compliance standards fordocumentation.
- 21. Collaborates with other leaders and staff to effectively achieve patient outcome based improvements in Dermatology.
- 22. Provides leadership in the development and implantation of changes in the Dermatology practice that positively impact patientoutcomes.
- 23. Works collaboratively with medical and nursing staff to facilitate creative problem solving and provide professionalsupport.
- 24. Participates and initiates inter-disciplinary approaches to patient care, program development and education. Serves as a professional role model.
- 25. Participates and provides leadership for committees and taskforces.
- 26. Documents hours and submits billing reports, as appropriate.
- 27. Reviews and interprets Dermatology data from sources such as patient registries, clinical and financial reports, access to care, and cost per case reports and recommends/implements changes asnecessary.
- 28. Participates in clinical trials and research studies with the Principal Investigator.
- 29. Assists Dermatology Faculty, Administrators and Directors in the collection of outcome measures.
- 30. Other duties/projects as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- 1. Heavy/Hard Work: Work required strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning of patients, standing, walking and carrying of patients, materials and equipment weighing40+ pounds.
