West Virginia University Health System is seeking an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) for its Dermatology/Wheeling Dermatology Center. The APP provides patient-centered care across dermatology services, collaborates with physicians and nurses, and delivers evidence-based care within scope and regulatory standards.

The position is outpatient, Monday–Friday, and involves coordination of care, education, and discharge planning within WVU Medicine’s Wheeling Hospital network.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate comprehensive Dermatology patient management with the care team.
  • Perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures per scope of practice.
  • Discharge planning and follow-up coordination with appropriate services.
  • Educate residents and nursing staff and participate in teaching activities.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) hascoordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensivemanagement of Dermatology patients. The APP coordinates involvementof medical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensiveplan for the patient, and reviews the plan of care with the othermembers of the clinical team, participates in directing that care,performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and coordinatesdisposition decisions and discharge planning/follow-up (asapplicable). The APP participates in the education of residents andmedical/nursing students. Provide healthcare services consistentwith state law and the requirements of the professional licensingor certification authority and/or hospital privileges, whereapplicable. Such service may include, but are not limited to.

5. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at the discretion of thedepartment.

  3. Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests followingestablished clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
  4. Consults and communicates with clinical and hospital staffregarding abnormal findings in the evaluations of patients.
  5. Performs succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations andcomments findings in medical record.
  6. Facilitates patient discharge and/or disposition by coordinatingappropriate services and tests for follow-up appointments in theclinic (as applicable) or location of necessary carearrangements.
  7. Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the agecontinuum of their educational experience and certification.
  8. Recognizes emergency situations and initiates effectiveemergency care.
  9. Assists in the collection of outcome measures (asapplicable).
  10. Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skillsin clinical decision making by the identification, evaluation andmanagement of the individual Dermatology needs of patients.
  11. Demonstrates the ability to utilize equipment in a safemanner.
  12. Bases decisions made/actions taken on the relevant scientificprinciples, established standards of care and/or researchfindings.
  13. Utilizes teaching/learning theory and appropriate teachingstrategies in the provision of education to nursing staff, hospitalstaff, students, patients, families and the community.
  14. Promotes an environment that facilitates learning by respondingto appropriate patient/family preferences, priorities and readinessto learn.
  15. Updates own knowledge base throughout the year.
  16. Completes all identified clinical competencies.
  17. Serves as a resource person for staff caring for dermatologypatients.
  18. Provides educational programs to professional andparaprofessional personnel in area of expertise.
  19. Participates in community programs, distribution of literature,as appropriate in area of expertise.
  20. Documents the plan of care, interventions, evaluations anddisposition plans in a clear and concise manner for every patientvisit in the patient’s medical record following approvedhospital/UHA policies and compliance standards fordocumentation.
  21. Collaborates with other leaders and staff to effectivelyachieve patient outcome based improvements in Dermatology.
  22. Provides leadership in the development and implantation ofchanges in the Dermatology practice that positively impact patientoutcomes.
  23. Works collaboratively with medical and nursing staff tofacilitate creative problem solving and provide professionalsupport.
  24. Participates and initiates inter-disciplinary approaches topatient care, program development and education. Serves as aprofessional role model.
  25. Participates and provides leadership for committees and taskforces.
  26. Documents hours and submits billing reports, asappropriate.
  27. Reviews and interprets Dermatology data from sources such aspatient registries, clinical and financial reports, access to care,and cost per case reports and recommends/implements changes asnecessary.
  28. Participates in clinical trials and research studies with thePrincipal Investigator.
  29. Assists Dermatology Faculty, Administrators and Directors inthe collection of outcome measures.
  30. Other duties/projects as assigned.
