Job summary

Gulf Copper in Galveston, TX is seeking a Project Manager/Engineer to oversee ship repair and fabrication projects, ensuring safety compliance and timely execution.

You will coordinate with estimating, planners, and clients, maintain schedules in MS Project, monitor costs, and prepare status reports. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

A engineering degree and experience in marine projects are preferred; PMI certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred but not required; Naval Architecture is a plus.
  • 3–5 years ship repair/fabrication experience preferred; 4–6 years in different industries may be acceptable.
  • 2–4 years marine-industry project or production management experience preferred.
  • Alternative: 3 years marine experience with PMI or equivalent certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of health and safety policies and ensure compliance for people associated with projects under their management.
  • Interface with estimating to support development of a detailed plan for executing the project.
  • Understand the project baseline to assist with control changes from the Scope of Work.
  • Monitor work and assignments for the project and report progress to the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate Contract Document finalization with Client AFC drawings and specifications.
  • Identify and advise Senior Project Management of special equipment, labor, schedule, or insurance needs.
  • Assist with maintaining project schedules in MS Project and resolve scheduling issues with input from the Scheduler.
  • Notify PM of risks and opportunities and help minimize risks and maximize opportunities.
  • Assist with contract administration to ensure contract requirement compliance.
  • Monitor cost and schedule using EVMS and cost summaries; report to PM for corrective action.
  • Provide input for project planning and work package documents; daily/weekly status reporting.
  • Manage and update project documentation; attend meetings and distribute minutes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This positionis responsible forthe following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Keeps abreast of health and safety policies, procedures and strategies for the company and facility, ensuring compliance bypeopleassociated with Projects undertheirmanagement.
  • Interfaces with estimating to support the development of a detailedplan for executing theproject.
  • Understands the project baselinein order toassistwithcontrol changes from the agreed Scope of Work.
  • Monitors work and work assignments for the project, and reports progress to Project Manager.
  • Liaises between the Project Manager and Planning/Estimating tofinalizethe Contract Document, ensuring that any qualifications/clarifications along with the Client’s Approved for Construction (AFC) drawing and specifications are incorporated into the final Contract Document.
  • Identifies toandadvisesSenior Project Management as to any special equipment, labor, schedule, financial, or insurance requirements that have been agreed to within the contract.
  • AssistwithmaintainingtheProject schedules in MS Project by assessing task completion progress and inputting percentage complete.Resolves schedule maintenance issues with input from Scheduler.
  • Notifies ProjectManager of any risk and opportunities associated with the Project andassiststo minimizerisks andmaximizeopportunities.
  • Assistwith contract administration to ensure contract requirement compliance.
  • Monitors cost and schedule utilizing EVMS and Accounting cost summary reports and reports to Project Manager for corrective action.
  • Provides input to support project planning and work package document development. Daily or weekly reporting as to the project status.
  • Manage and update any necessary project documentation (deliverables lists, action items list, punch lists, etc.).
  • Attends all project meetingsinternalandexternaland takes meeting minutes. Prepares
  • minutes and action items list and sends themto Project Manager for review,approval,and distribution.
Required Education & Experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (preferablystructural, civil, and mechanical)is desired but notrequired.A degree in Naval Architecturea plus.
  • Three (3)to five(5)years Ship repair/fabrication experience preferred.Four (4) to Six (6) years of experiencein different industries may bedeemedacceptable.
  • Two (2)tofour (4)yearsofmarineindustry-basedproject or production management experience preferred.
  • As an alternative, three (3) years of experience in a marine industry environment and a Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent certification.
Working Conditions:
  • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in anoffice-controlledenvironment.
  • Must wear hearing, eye, headprotectionand proper PPEwhenrequired.
  • May have to visit projects aboard ships,rigsboth on and offshore as well as confined spaces.
  • Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over,crouching,and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
Necessary Equipment Operation:
  • Office equipment, including telephone, fax machine, scanner, computer, printer, etc.
Special Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings,operatingand technical manuals, along with drawing and interpreting graphs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.
  • Strong Organizational skills and able to use time effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to effectively speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations before groups of customers or employees.
  • Strong teamplayer.
  • Excellent planning, negotiating, and organizing skills.
