Job description

Position Title

AOV Field Service Technician

Reports To

AOV Diagnostic Testing Supervisor

Description

The technician can recognize and understand the Air Operated Valve (AOV), actuator, positioner, I/P, and booster. Responsible for installing AOV diagnostic test equipment and data acquisition systems, setting up AOV actuators, and performing instrument calibrations (e.g., I/P and positioners). Understands traces, can select proper points for calibration, and verifies that data meets the criteria specified in the valve data sheet. Has a basic understanding of AOV performance parameters and degradations, performing analysis on acquired data using automated, manual, and overlay routines. Can manually analyze direct stem force measurements to determine basic force parameters and, if applicable, switches and accelerometer/acoustics data.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Perform all duties safely and in accordance with customer or CRANE procedures.
  2. Properly install, remove, and set up software for components and transducers.
  3. Successfully acquire and store data.
  4. Evaluate typical AOV performance parameters and common actuator/valve degradations through basic signature analysis.
Required Experience and/or Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Mechanical knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong commitment to meeting customer requirements and continuous improvement.
  • Effective team communication skills.
  • Meet current certification and qualification requirements per CRANE Nuclear QAP-2.0, including:
    • AOV DABA Training or Challenge
    • AOV DABA Exam (TM-35 or 47)
    • AOV DABA TPE
Physical Requirements
  • Willing to work 12-hour rotating shifts, up to 72 hours per week.
  • Ability to travel and support domestic projects for several weeks to months.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods (4-6 hours), crawl, stoop, crouch, and work overhead with flexibility.
  • Work in clean, safe, and orderly environments.
  • Work in conditions with radiation exposure.
  • Climb, balance, and work at heights using platforms, scaffolding, or ladders.
  • Distinguish depth perception and colors.
  • Use handheld and power tools efficiently.
  • Wear fall protection gear.
  • Work in extreme heat (>100°F) following OSHA guidelines.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Wear a full-face respirator and full-body contamination clothing.
Other Requirements
  • Gain unescorted access to nuclear plants after extensive background checks.
  • Pass drug and alcohol tests.
  • Complete required computer-based training, classes, and exams for unescorted access.
  • Provide work authorization documents for employment in the U.S.
