Job summary

The University of Arizona invites applications for an Adaptive Optics Associate at the Large Binocular Telescope Observatory in Tucson. The role conducts night-time operations and provides technician support to maintain the LBTO AO systems, with opportunities to grow into a technical expert overseeing integration with observatory operations.

Responsibilities include routine AO system setup, performance diagnostics, and contributing to documentation and future AO equipment design under supervisor

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to the remote observatory site.

Responsibilities

• Operate AO equipment for night-time observations with guidance from senior personnel.
• Perform routine setup and checkout of AO systems to prepare for daytime and nighttime activities.
• Provide technician-level support in diagnosing performance issues in AO equipment and assist with on-site hardware based on supervisor instructions.
• Contribute to operational documentation to improve AO system performance.
• Assist in the design and implementation of new AO equipment based on supervisor direction.
