Job summary

University of Arizona's Large Binocular Telescope Observatory seeks an Adaptive Optics Scientist II to support operation, optimization, and development of LBTO AO systems across their lifecycle. The role serves as a technical expert for AO systems and their integration into observatory operations.

The position involves leading calibration and troubleshooting, on-site maintenance at the telescope, and driving new AO capabilities into daily use, with opportunities to participate in major ongoing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Optics, Physics, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
• Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Responsibilities

• Execute nighttime AO operations to maximize system throughput.
• Lead troubleshooting for technical issues and on-site hardware repairs.
• Lead calibration, characterization, and fine-tuning of AO systems.
• Oversee technical documentation and procedure development for AO operations.
• Lead design, development, and commissioning of new AO capabilities.
