Job Description
POSITION TITLE: General Maintenance
DATE: September 24, 2015
REPORTS TO: Head Custodian
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance
LOCATION: District Wide
POSITION GOAL:
Maintain the physical building and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times, as designated by The Head Custodian.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement all maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency as designated by the Head Custodian.
- Recommend to the Head Custodian the purchase of suitable supplies, tools and equipment to meet the needs of the school.
- Strive constantly to promote the safety, health and comfort of the students and employees.
- Maintain heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity as designated by the Head Custodian.
- Remain on the school premises during school hours and non-school hours when his/her attendance is required and authorized by the Head Custodian.
- Adhere to local laws and procedures as per designated municipality.
- Report all security violations, problems with doors, locks, keys and vandalism, etc. to the Head Custodian.
- Shall be required to perform any additional service at the request of the Head Custodian.
- Must supply own tools and District will supply specialty tools.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
- Must be able to do minor mechanical work such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and painting.
- Provide a preventative maintenance program set up by the Head Custodian for the changing of oils, filters, oiling and greasing motors, etc. Maintaining a quarterly (every 3 months) chart.
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Skill in the care and use of tools used in the maintenance and repair of building equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Display proper work ethic and commitment to excellence in previous assignments.
- Makes visual observations, manual adjustments, reports findings in written or oral formats, when necessary.
- Preform any activities deemed necessary by the Head Custodian.
- In the performance of duties, employee must lift and carry supplies up to 50 pounds for at least 20 yards; uses hand and power tools. These duties all commonly involve repetitive actions and motions such as grasping, reaching, twisting, pushing, and pulling.
- Work must be performed under a range of weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, or ice; exposure to poisonous plants, animals, or insects and a variety of potential injuries such as bruises, cuts, scrapes, sprains, and strains.
- Must be capable of wearing appropriate protective gear such as hard hats, protective shoes, aprons, gloves, and eye wear.
- Proficient computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and database, along with the ability to learn and adapt to new computer software programs.
- Internet navigation and use of email are essential.
- Current Act 24 (82), Act 34, Act 114, Act 151, Act 168 clearances and pre-employment drug testing and physical with TB test required.
- Valid PA Driver’s License
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in general maintenance.
- The person, while performing in this position, will be required to:
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear;
- Sit, and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch;
- Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision and the ability to adjust focus;
- Subject to inside office environmental conditions with moderate noise level;
- Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; and
- Possess effective communication, judgment, mathematical, planning and human relations skills, and to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- 12 months; 8 hours per day.
2. Salary and benefits according to the agreement between the Board of School Directors and the Teamsters Local 401, International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
