Position
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Qualifications
- Experience as a teacher preferred
- Valid administrative certificate
Responsible to: Principal
Contract Year: Subject to contract
Salary: Subject to Administrative salary agreement
Major Responsibilities
Staff supervision and evaluation
- Work directly with the staff
- Assist with staff evaluation under the guidance of the Principal
Curriculum
- Evaluate and make recommendations for the improvement of the curriculum
- Provide leadership for the staff in curriculum changes and/or adoption of new teaching techniques and materials
- Attend any RTI meetings
Daily Operation of Building
- Assist Principal, as required
- Be in charge of building during absence of Principal
- Be responsible for condition of the building and the comfort and safety of staff and students.
Discipline
- Handle student discipline as needed
- Make recommendations for change and additions to the student handbook
- Coordinate where possible, discipline problem solution with teachers
- Meet with students and parents on discipline problems
- Contact and use law enforcement resources when the safety and/or welfare of the students, teachers, and/or other school employees are threatened
Attendance
- Make daily check on absenteeism
- Make contact with truant officer when necessary
- Hold parent conferences
- Assist in correcting cases of truancy
Athletic and School Activities
- Assist the principal in the supervision and coordination of all sports
- Represent school at other school functions as needed
- Maintain records of weekly eligibility of students
- Notify coaches of ineligible students
Special Education Program
- Assist in coordination of special education program
- Attend staffing as needed
Student Services/Welfare
- Supervise students in lunch program
- Attend to medical problems as needed
- Maintain student records
- Act on behalf of the administration and/or Board of Education in legal matters concerning students
Scheduling
- Assume the duty of developing the master schedule with the guidance counselor
- Substitute in classes when necessary on period basis
Community and Public Relations
- Make parent contact and hold conferences
- Keep informed of community activities
- Serve as liaison between school and community
Student Organizations
- Help establish clear and well defined policies governing each club and organization
- Provide supervision at club sponsored activities
