Job summary

Twist Bioscience in South San Francisco, CA is seeking an exceptional R&D scientist specializing in cell biology and protein expression to lead antibody-focused protein sciences. The role blends hands-on bench work with building scalable workflows and a technical roadmap, with growing team leadership as the group expands.

You will design and optimize antibody expression and purification pipelines, advance workflows end-to-end, and collaborate across disciplines to push the science forward.

Qualifications

• PhD in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
• 8+ years of experience in protein sciences.
• Hands-on experience working with antibody expression and purification.
• Experience with liquid-handling systems and automation is a plus.
• Familiarity with Python or equivalent programming languages is a plus.
• Travel 10% of time to Portland, OR.

Responsibilities

• Develop antibody production workflows, including single-chain, IgG, multispecific formats, culture systems, and purification methods.
• Improve end-to-end antibody development workflow: construct design, cell line development, culture, purification, and analytics.
• Build from the ground up and manage a team of scientists and RAs.
• Independently design and execute experiments, and analyze data.
• Move projects forward efficiently and prioritize tasks aligned with company goals.
• Document and communicate results clearly and succinctly.
• Stay up to date with new developments, companies, and technologies.
• Be the ultimate subject matter expert across related work.
