Program Summary

The National Science Foundation (NSF) manages the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). The USAP supports all U.S. scientific research and related logistics in Antarctica and aboard USAP vessels that operate along the continental margin and in the Southern Ocean. Science within the Antarctic research portfolio is chosen and funded by NSF and other Federal agencies, including NASA, NOAA, and the Department of Energy. The purpose of the Antarctic Science and Engineering Support Contract (ASESC) is to enable that science. All participants are responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority. This includes compliance with all ASESC environmental health & safety, and quality assurance requirements.

Job Summary

The Network Systems Packet Lead will oversee the transition of all program network systems including, network operations, email, system access and security, user support, and the service desk associated with the Antarctic Science and Engineering Support Contract (ASESC). This role leads the collection, organization, validation, and transfer of network systems information to ensure continuity of mission‑critical communications and IT operations by collaborating with network engineers, system administrators, operations personnel, and transition leadership to facilitate a seamless and compliant transition of network services and infrastructure. This position will play a critical role in laying the foundation every other function relies on, with the added challenge of constrained satellite bandwidth. *This is a remote position based in the US.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, organization, and management of Network Systems transition packets supporting transition objectives
  • Coordinate the collection, review, validation, and transfer of network‑related documentation, configurations, diagrams, inventories, procedures, and operational records
  • Collaborate with network engineers, system administrators, and subject matter experts to document current‑state network architecture, services, and operational processes
  • Track transition deliverables, milestones, risks, action items, and dependencies associated with network systems
  • Ensure network documentation is complete, accurate, current, and maintained in accordance with established document control practices
  • Support the transfer and validation of network inventories, configuration baselines, asset records, maintenance histories, and support documentation
  • Assist in documenting network monitoring, incident response, cybersecurity, and continuity‑of‑operations procedures
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between network teams, transition personnel, and cross‑functional stakeholders
  • Prepare transition reports, status updates, metrics, and briefings for leadership review
Basic Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, Telecommunications, Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience supporting network operations, telecommunications, information technology, systems administration, or related technical functions
  • Experience organizing, maintaining, or managing technical documentation and records
  • Strong organizational, project coordination, and documentation management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and tracking systems
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders across multiple functional areas
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure, telecommunications systems, or IT operations
  • Knowledge of network operations, systems administration, communications infrastructure, cybersecurity practices, or IT service management
  • Experience supporting government contracts, transition efforts, mobilizations, or operational readiness programs
