  • Experience with flight planning, scheduling, dispatch, load planning, or air operations coordination.
  • Knowledge of aviation safety principles, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders in operational environments.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Program Summary

The National Science Foundation (NSF) manages the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). The USAP supports all U.S. scientific research and related logistics in Antarctica and aboard USAP vessels that operate along the continental margin and in the Southern Ocean. Science within the Antarctic research portfolio is chosen and funded by NSF and other Federal agencies, including NASA, NOAA, and the Department of Energy. The purpose of the Antarctic Science and Engineering Support Contract (ASESC) is to enable that science. All participants are responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority. This includes compliance with all ASESC environmental health & safety, and quality assurance requirements.

Job Summary

The Air Operations Transition Lead serves as the subject matter expert responsible for the transition, assessment, and operational continuity of aviation services supporting Antarctic operations. This role oversees the transition of intercontinental and intracontinental flight operations, load planning, aircraft dispatch, air-operator coordination, and helicopter operations that are critical to safely transporting personnel, cargo, and scientific resources across Antarctica.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead the transition of intercontinental and intracontinental flight planning and scheduling operations.
  • Oversee the transition of load planning, aircraft dispatch, and air-operator coordination activities.
  • Support the transition and operational assessment of helicopter operations.
  • Document and manage interfaces with military and commercial aviation partners.
  • Ensure aviation operations, procedures, and documentation are effectively transitioned and maintained.
  • Provide technical expertise and oversight to support safe, efficient, and compliant aviation operations.
Basic Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Aviation Operations, Transportation, Logistics, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in aviation operations, flight operations, dispatch, air mobility, or related aviation support functions.
  • Experience with flight planning, scheduling, dispatch, load planning, or air operations coordination.
  • Knowledge of aviation safety principles, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders in operational environments.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in complex, fast-paced, and mission-critical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting military, remote, polar, expeditionary, or austere aviation operations.
  • Knowledge of both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aviation operations.
  • Experience with airlift operations, cargo management, or aircraft load planning.
  • Familiarity with aviation dispatch, flight-following, and airfield operations.
  • Experience coordinating with military and commercial air operators.
  • Relevant aviation certifications, flight operations training, or dispatcher credentials.
