Job summary

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of client-facing fundraising or sales experience
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, organizational, and verbal and written communications skills
  • Proven ability to build constructive relationships with donors and volunteers
  • Ability to travel within Massachusetts with a valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to attend evening/weekend events
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM databases (Salesforce a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 250+ donors to secure annual gifts of $1,000–$10,000 (and multi-year pledges)
  • Conduct 30–50 gift solicitations annually
  • Cultivate and engage donors with regular contacts (in-person, virtual, phone)
  • Apply moves management to qualify prospects and track statuses
  • Collaborate with GBFB team and volunteers to support donor cultivation and events
  • Record activities in Salesforce to maintain donor accounts and pipeline
  • Travel within Massachusetts; some evenings and weekends as needed
  • All other duties as assigned

Position Summary

The Annual Giving Manager is responsible for advancing relationships with individual donors who have the capacity to make significant philanthropic investments in The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB). In this fundraising role, their primary focus is on securing gifts between $1,000 and $10,000 from a portfolio of individuals to support the organization’s mission. They achieve this by implementing strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors toward annual gifts that support the current and long-term priorities of GBFB. The Annual Giving Manager also will align fundraising activities around direct marketing campaigns and signature events.

In addition, the Annual Giving Manager may engage with and solicit donors capable of making major gifts of $10,000 or more annually, or bequest gifts. The Annual Giving Manager may collaborate with other GBFB team members, leaders, and volunteers to execute these activities.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of 250 or more prospective and current donors to secure annual gifts between $1,000 - $10,000 gifts, including multi-year pledges.
  • Conduct 30 – 50 intentional gift solicitations of portfolio donors annually. Participate in calling campaigns or other time‑bound solicitation activities of non-portfolio donors at key times of year.
  • Actively cultivate and engage with donors on a consistent, ongoing basis, achieving a minimum of 150 visit contacts (in-person, virtual, telephone) annually across portfolio.
  • Apply moves management best practices in the qualification/disqualification of current and potential prospects and in the determination of prospect status attributes.
  • Collaborate with peer fundraisers, members of the Advancement team, other GBFB departments, senior and executive leadership, advocates, and volunteers to support donor cultivation and stewardship activities and events.
  • Consistently record activities and update information in Salesforce to ensure accuracy and upkeep of donor accounts, the overall donor pipeline, and for moves management tracking.
  • Frequent travel within Massachusetts, with some evening and weekend work required.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
  • 2 - 3 years of client-facing fundraising or sales experience, or similar
  • Must possess a professional demeanor, as well as strong interpersonal, customer service, organizational, and verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proven capacity to develop constructive relationships with donors, colleagues, volunteers, advocates, and others.
  • Ability to prioritize and be proactive.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and CRM databases (Salesforce a plus) required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Massachusetts to meet with donors, including having a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability and willingness to attend special events that may take place during evening/weekend hours.
  • Genuine appreciation of GBFB’s mission and the ability to authentically communicate it.
  • Demonstrates the required digital competencies that result in the effective usage of the full range of digital technologies at GBFB.
