Job summary

The City of Bridgeport is seeking a Mail Courier for thePrint Shop to provide timely mail, courier, and delivery services across City Hall and other municipal buildings. You will transport completed jobs from the Print Shop and assist with mail processing tasks as needed.

The ideal candidate holds a High School diploma, has a year or more of courier experience, and can follow directions precisely. Pre-employment screening and a valid CT driver’s license are required.

In-Plant Printing strives to provide efficient and high-quality printing and mailing needs for the City of Bridgeport’sdepartments, while constantly pursuing cost savings. We are dedicated to delivering timely, accurate, and cost-effectiveprinting and sign services while continuing to strive for innovation and expansion of our services. In addition, we aim to streamline all mail processing, distribution, and delivery, contributing to the seamless operation of City departments andenhancing the overall effectiveness of municipal services in Bridgeport.

Salary and Benefits: $39,719.00 per year. This summary provides a brief overview of the benefits available to regularfull-time municipal employees. Governing StructureThe City has a Mayor-City Council form of government. Bridgeport has an elected mayor who serves as the chief executiveofficer of the municipal government and serves a four-year term. The current mayor is Joseph P. Ganim, who is currentlyserving his eighth term as mayor. The City Council is the twenty-member legislative body whose two major responsibilitiesare enacting ordinances necessary to ensure the welfare and good order of the City and adopting the City’s annual budget.Councilmembers are elected by the residents of the ten council districts to represent the concerns, needs, and issues of theirconstituents, and work to improve the City’s neighborhoods. All Councilmembers serve a two-year term in office.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

This position is responsible for providing mail, courier, package, and delivery services to City Hall and other City buildingsand departments, including the transportation and delivery of completed jobs produced by the Print Shop.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collects, transports, and delivers incoming, outgoing, and interdepartmental mail to City Hall and other City buildingsand departments.
  • Operates a motor vehicle to pick up and drop off mail from City Hall and other City buildings and departments.
  • Picks up, loads, transports, and delivers mail, packages, boxes, supplies, and completed Print Shop jobs, including heavy and/or bulky materials, between City buildings and departments.
  • Assists with Print Shop and Mailing Department operations as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Possess a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s license and a good driving record
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  • High School graduate
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Not less than one year of courier experience
