Job summary

The City of Davenport is seeking an Animal Control Supervisor to oversee field officers, enforce animal care laws, and assist with investigations. This role includes coordinating responses to animal abuse, impounding animals, and working with Police on cruelty cases.

Applicants should have a High School diploma or GED, NACA ACO I certification with plans for ACO II within six months, and a valid driver's license. Residency in IA/IL preferred. Excellent benefits available.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent. Two years of experience in animal care or enforcement of government laws.
• Must possess a National Animal Care and Control (NACA) ACO I certification and obtain a NACA ACO II certification within six months of appointment and maintain throughout employment.
• Valid driver’s license required and residency in Iowa or Illinois within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and schedules employees engaged in animal control field activities.
• Investigates alleged animal abuse and violations of ordinances related to animal care or behavior.
• Collaborates with law enforcement to respond to animal cruelty and neglect incidents.
• Takes possession of animals showing neglect or disease and transports to designated facilities.
• Patrols assigned areas, impounds animals, and handles rabies-related investigations as needed.
• Inspects animal enclosures and facilities for safety compliance; issues warnings or citations.
• Testifies in legal proceedings regarding animal control violations.
• Completes records and prepares reports of daily activities and investigations.
• Creates educational programs related to animal control ordinances and animal care; performs other municipal enforcement duties.
• Stand-by duty to respond to emergency calls at night, weekends, and holidays.
