The City of Crestview is seeking an Animal Control Officer to enforce laws governing animal care and treatment, protect and rescue domesticated animals, and maintain public health standards. Salary is based on experience and applicable certification.

The role involves responding to dispatch calls, investigating animal-related incidents, transporting animals, and interacting with the public. A valid driver’s license and NACA certification are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receives calls from dispatch and drives assigned vehicle to location.
  • Investigates alleged animal abuse or violations related to animal care, interviewing involved individuals.
  • Takes possession of animals showing neglect or disease.
  • Transports animals to agency, shelter, or veterinarian.
  • Patrols assigned areas seeking stray, sick, or injured animals; provides minor medical treatment when needed.
  • Completes records and prepares reports on daily activities, fees, citations, and investigations.
  • Collects fees for services, licenses, redemption, and adoption.
  • Provides information on licensing, vaccinations, euthanasia, adoptions, and related matters.
  • Uses department-issued weapons as needed to capture or euthanize animals according to protocol.
  • Testifies as an expert witness in legal proceedings.
  • Speaks to community groups about pet care and population control.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Usesdepartment-issuedweaponsasneededtocaptureand/or euthanize animals according to established protocol.
  • Testifiesasanexpertwitnessinlegalproceedings.
  • Speakstocommunitygroupsaboutthepropercareandfeedingof pets and the value of pet population control.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Successful completion of on-the-job training.
  • Animal care or law enforcement background strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • National Animal Control Association (NACA) certificate preferred.
