The Animal Control Supervisor is eligible for an additional $4,000 per year Regional Stipend for providing services to the Cities of Roanoke, Colleyville, Southlake and Keller and the Town of Westlake.

JOB DESCRIPTION
City of Keller, Texas

REPORTS TO: Deputy Chief - Support Services FLSA: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of the Deputy Chief over Support Services, the Animal Control Supervisor supervises personnel and department resources for the successful operation of the Keller Regional Animal Services division. Animal Control Supervisor position is responsible for enforcement of local, state animal control laws and regulations. Incumbent is responsible for the operation of animal control equipment and the apprehension of unwanted, sick, stray, and escaped animals, which involves impounding and maintaining them in an animal shelter. Supervisor will assist the Deputy Chief with all animal control personnel matters to include discipline and performance reviews.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide supervision and operational guidance for animal control officers on shift.

2. Approve time-off and vacation requests in a manner that provides adequate coverage for regional animal control services.

3. Ensure daily deposits are prepared by closing all cash drawers and delivering deposits.

4. Assist with the timely scheduling of Keller Animal Shelter Advisory meetings.

5. Guide animal control personnel in the performance of tasks related to the enforcement of Texas animal control regulations and the city ordinances of the Keller Regional Animal Control partnering cities.

6. Perform tasks related to Texas animal control regulations and the city ordinances of the Keller Regional Animal Control partnering cities.

7. Complete reports and inspections as required by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Accreditation program and the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation Best Practices Accreditation Program.

8. Answer calls and patrol the partnering cities, to include the capture and impoundment of stray and/or unwanted animals. Retrieve sick, injured and dead animals.

9. Collaborate with state and local agencies on rabies control and quarantine animals suspected of having rabies.

10. Handle complaints and explain animal control laws and regulations to the general public.

11. Ensure proper maintenance and care of animal control units and related animal control equipment.

12. Arrange animal transfers to the Humane Society of North Texas for adoptions.

13. Serve as a liaison between Keller Regional Animal Services division and the Humane Society of North Texas.

14. Clean animal runs/cages and feed impounded animals.

15. Euthanize sick and injured animals.

16. Release claimed animals.

17. Remove dead or injured dogs and animals from municipal roads and public areas.

18. Arrive to work every day on time, in good physical and mental condition.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Promote the designated organizational culture in actions, behavior and performance of duties.

2. Attend training sessions for professional and personal growth.

3. Utilize safety equipment as provided by the city.

4. Acquire/maintain knowledge of accepted best police practices as standardized by CALEA and TPCAF accreditation programs.

6. Other duties as assigned or directed by a supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must meet all requirements for the Keller Regional Animal Control Officer.

2. Must have three (3) years of experience as a Keller Regional Animal Control Officer or similar experience.

3. High school diploma or a GED equivalent.

4. Valid Texas Driver's License and a safe driving record.

Work generally performed outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes, however, some duties are performed indoors in climate-controlled facilities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to read a computer screen or documents, grasp, handle, feel, type, listen, hear, reach, see, speak, walk, and sit. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, crouch, carry, and lift up to 50lbs. Duties may require lifting, carrying and/or moving animals weighing up to 100 pounds unassisted, and/or dragging animals weighing up to 150 pounds unassisted. Assigned work hours may include weekends and holidays.
