Job summary

Amador County is seeking an Animal Control Officer I to enforce county ordinances and state laws governing licensing, adoption, impounding and euthanasia of animals. Under supervision, you will transport animals, care for shelter animals, maintain records, issue licenses, and coordinate with law enforcement as needed.

Eligible candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, experience with the public, and prior animal-care experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with the public is preferred.
• Experience caring for animals is required.
• Ability to learn county/state ordinances and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Patrols areas to investigate, locate, and impound animals.
• Responds to calls about stray, nuisance, dangerous, or injured animals.
• Maintains records of licenses, impounds, and fees collected.
• Issues licenses and explains ordinances to the public.
• Cares for animals in the shelter and assists with euthanasia as needed.
• Coordinates with law enforcement and may transport inmates when required.
