Job summary

Augusta Richmond County is seeking a dedicated Animal Control Officer to protect public safety and care for shelter animals. The role combines field patrols, investigation of animal-related incidents, and enforcement of animal control ordinances.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of experience, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to drive a county vehicle. Training provided; shift may include evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• One year of continuous experience in any field; on-the-job training provided.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving history; ability to obtain licenses in GA/SC if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Respond to animal-related complaints and investigate bites, cruelty, and distress.
• Patrol for stray animals; capture, transport to shelter to vet as needed.
• Process documentation: bite reports, vaccination records, citations, and daily logs.
• Enforce ordinances; issue citations and coordinate with law enforcement as required.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable laws and participate in required trainings.
