Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; one year experience with animals and one year experience dealing with the public.
• Rabies pre-exposure vaccination series and euthanasia technician certification required.
• A higher education level may substitute part or all of the experience requirements.
• Valid driver's license required; background check due to law enforcement context.

Responsibilities

• Enforces state and county animal control laws and issues citations.
• Educates public on animal control laws and owner responsibilities.
• Serves civil papers and may issue orders to arrest for citations non-response.
• Handles field orders for preventive measures and documents calls.
• Responds to animal welfare complaints and records actions taken.
• Captures suspected rabid or vicious animals and quarantines biting animals.
• Transports animals to shelter and handles intake and euthanasia as needed.
• Assists in dispatching calls to other officers and maintains safety checks on equipment.
• Inspects vehicles, equipment, and weapons; requests maintenance and supplies.
• Performs related duties as required.
