Job summary

Colleton County Government is accepting applications for the position of Animal Control Officer.

The successful candidate will under general supervision, enforce state laws and county ordinances related to animal care and control, maintain daily operations and activities of the Animal Shelter, ensuring the protection of public health and safety and provides a safe and humane environment for all sheltered animals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with one to two years of practical training or experience in animal control or related field.
• Must have or be able to obtain Level 3 Certification from South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Enforce state laws and county ordinances related to animal care and control.
• Maintain daily operations and activities of the Animal Shelter.
• Ensure the protection of public health and safety and provide a safe and humane environment for sheltered animals.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with one to two years of practical training/experience in animal control or a related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have or be able to obtain Level 3 Certification from South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Three (3) year driving record must be submitted with application. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or above and reside in Colleton County.
