University Animal Care (UAC) at the University of Arizona is seeking an Animal Technician II to perform intermediate animal care and husbandry in a designated facility. The role supports research and welfare programs, using established procedures and species-specific practices to ensure animal health and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent education/experience combination.
• Ability to follow established protocols and comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to observe and report animal health and welfare concerns to veterinary staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform intermediate animal husbandry duties, including feeding, watering, and cage maintenance.
• Conduct basic breeding colony tasks such as separating breeders and weaning litters.
• Follow biosafety, sanitation, and safety procedures to maintain compliance.
• Observe animals for health and welfare concerns and communicate observations to veterinary/research staff.
• Administer routine medications and treatments as prescribed and document activities.
• Operate and maintain specialized equipment (autoclaves, laminar flow hoods, ventilated cages).
• Monitor animal room environmental conditions and report deviations.
• Record husbandry activities and data in required systems.
