Job Summary
The employee reports to the Associate Director of the Office of Animal Resources. Under minimal supervision, they will provide skilled care and handling of laboratory animals in a safe and sanitary manner. Primary work areas include standard housing, USDA housing, bio-hazardous areas, and animal colonies requiring specialized procedures. They will also have limited supervisory duties, including oversight of work but excluding discipline. The employee ensures compliance with standards set by NIH, USDA, IACUC, and institutional SOPs.
To maintain a satisfactory environment in the Animal Facilities meeting IACUC and USDA requirements regarding animal health. Candidates must possess the necessary knowledge and skills to perform essential functions, including working with various animals, disclosing allergies or medical conditions, and maintaining good physical condition for activities like standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
The employee must ensure facility compliance with animal welfare guidelines such as the Animal Welfare Act, IACUC standards, and NIH guidelines. USDA facilities are subject to inspections to ensure proper conditions.
