Location:

Taconic Biosciences is seeking Animal Care Technicians to join our dedicated operations team at the Seattle, WA site. Our animal care team is passionate about the Taconic mission, collaborative, energetic and positive.

The Starting Pay:

$23.10 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including but not limited to geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions.

The Work Schedule:

Shifts starting as early as 5:00am Monday - Friday. Rotating weekends will be required once trained, with a pay differential included.

Number of Positions Open:

Hiring 2 positions with start dates beginning in June. If you cannot begin immediately but are interested in a future hire date, let us know!

The Role:

Animal Care Technicians start as Trainees in our comprehensive training program, progressing through levels 1 to 3, with potential to reach Senior Specialist positions based on skills and performance. Regular check-ins with your manager support your growth.

Your responsibilities include providing compassionate care for rats and/or mice, adhering to SOPs, regulatory standards, and client specifications, and contributing to research efforts aimed at developing cures for diseases.

Core Responsibilities as an Animal Care Technician 1:
  • Ensure high standards of animal welfare.
  • Report inhumane treatment or animal abuse.
  • Perform husbandry tasks: feeding, watering, and housing animals per SOP.
  • Monitor environmental conditions and report issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness and documentation of work performed.
  • Follow dress code and safety procedures.
  • Maintain health status of designated areas and breed specific strains.
  • Participate in weight, feed, and production studies, and quality control sampling.
  • Manage animal inventories and breeding records.
  • Escalate issues as necessary.
Education & Experience:
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred experience in a laboratory animal setting.
  • Strong attendance, adherence to SOPs, teamwork, enthusiasm, curiosity, and safety commitment.
Additional Skills:
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Adaptability and positive response to work demands.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

Regular physical activity such as climbing, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Exposure to chemicals, machinery, temperature extremes, outdoor weather, and noise. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.
