Animal Care Technician - Forsyth County Animal Shelter

Great opportunity to work in the Forsyth County Animal Shelter, responsible for daily kennel cleaning, animal care, and related tasks. The role involves computer data entry into Microsoft Office and shelter-specific software, assisting in rabies clinics (including administering vaccinations), and interacting professionally with staff, external agencies, and the public. Adherence to the NC Animal Welfare Act and Forsyth County policies is essential.

Key skills include excellent customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain professional relationships. The candidate must be able to read animal temperaments, handle animals responsibly, and lift up to 50 lbs. A high school diploma or equivalent, one year of animal care and customer service experience, and a valid driver's license are required. The position requires completing a rabies pre-exposure vaccination series and obtaining certification as a Rabies Vaccinator within six months.

Essential Duties

1. Clean kennels and work areas regularly to ensure a clean environment for animals.
2. Transfer animals in the computer system and assist with physically moving animals when necessary.
3. Assist with euthanasia procedures as needed.
4. Feed, water, and provide vaccinations to animals, including during rabies clinics.
5. Accurately perform data entry, research, and record keeping.
6. Participate in state inspections, disaster response, and training sessions.
7. Work with Shelter Management to meet department goals.
8. Follow cleaning protocols to keep workspaces organized and sanitary.
9. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.

Special requirements include completing the rabies vaccination series at county expense and obtaining certification as a Rabies Vaccinator within six months of employment.
