Position Overview

The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient operations of the Companion Animal Department, driving sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small animals. This role involves coaching and mentoring partners, supporting guest experience, and managing the department's sales, margins, and animal care standards.

Responsibilities

• Analyze business trends and implement improvement plans using business acumen and critical thinking skills.
• Ensure the health and well-being of live animals according to Petco standards, policies, and procedures.
• Follow veterinary protocols for sick animals.
• Process transactions to enhance guest experience.
• Support guest interactions and sales strategies.
• Train and coach partners in animal care, aquatics, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage inventory and ordering to maximize sales and margins.
• Maintain operational standards and animal maintenance tasks.
• Ensure high presentation standards in aquatics and animal areas.
• Partner with merchandising to ensure stock levels meet goals.
• Handle and document all adoption animals properly.
• Use sales and margin reports to inform decisions.
• Lead, coach, and provide feedback to team members.
• Manage scheduling to meet in-stock and service goals.
• Recruit, train, and develop team members.
• Provide excellent customer service, sharing product knowledge and suggesting appropriate merchandise.

Additional Duties

• Ensure safety policies are followed to protect partners, guests, and pets.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise Operations Specialists & Senior Aquatics Specialists, support Pet Care Center operations, and ensure safety and attendance policies are followed.

Work Environment

Support during key hours, including weekends. Tasks involve indoor work, occasional lifting, and standing for long periods. Some travel may be required.

Contacts

Regular interaction with guests, team members, vendors, and other departments. External contacts may involve coordinating merchandise, repairs, and events.
