Position Overview

The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department and drives sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. This leader coaches and mentors all Pet Care Center partners to support and enhance the guest experience and animal care. Responsibilities include training, developing, supporting scheduling, and leading a high-performing team to meet sales, gross margin, and animal and merchandise shrink targets. The role also involves managing all aspects of the Pet Care Center's operations in line with Petco standards and safety procedures.

Position Responsibilities

• Utilize business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
• Ensure the health and well-being of live animals according to Petco standards, including health checks and wellness documentation.
• Adhere to Veterinary Protocol for all sick animals.
• Process transactions to enhance guest experience.
• Support guest interactions with product knowledge and sales strategies.
• Implement and execute Companion Animal Operations and Aquatics through training and coaching.
• Order live animals efficiently to maximize sales and margins, analyzing inventory data for improvements.
• Maintain operational standards and animal-related maintenance tasks.
• Achieve presentation standards in aquatics and companion animal areas.
• Partner with merchandising to ensure proper stock levels.
• Handle and document all adoption animals appropriately.
• Review sales and margin reports to inform decisions.
• Lead, coach, and provide feedback to all PCC partners to ensure quality service.
• Manage partner scheduling to meet in-stock and guest service goals during peak hours.
• Recruit, hire, train, and develop team members, including succession planning.
• Provide excellent customer service and product recommendations during guest interactions.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college courses preferred.

• Proficiency in communication, organization, and computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong business, finance, analysis, and people development skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

The Operations Leader supervises Operations Specialists and Senior Aquatics Specialists, supporting daily operations and safety.

Work Environment

This role requires support during key hours, including weekends. Most duties are indoors, with occasional physical tasks. Some travel may be required.

Contacts

This position involves ongoing contact with customers, partners, vendors, and other departments to coordinate various activities and ensure smooth operations.
