Position Overview

The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department and drives sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. This leader will coach and mentor all Pet Care Center partners in processes supporting guest experience and animal care, and will be responsible for training, development, supporting operations scheduling, and leading a high-performing team to meet sales, gross margin, and animal and merchandise shrink targets. They will also assist in managing all aspects of the Pet Care Center's business according to Petco standards and safety procedures.

Position Responsibilities
  • Utilize business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure the health and well-being of live animals following Petco standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to Veterinary Protocol for all sick animals.
  • Process transactions to enhance guest experience.
  • Support guest interactions and sales models.
  • Implement and execute Companion Animal Operations and Aquatics through training and coaching.
  • Order live animals efficiently to maximize sales and inventory; analyze inventory data for improvements.
  • Maintain operational standards in the department.
  • Ensure all animal maintenance tasks are completed.
  • Maintain high presentation standards in aquatics and companion animal areas.
  • Partner with merchandising to ensure proper stock levels.
  • Handle and document all adoption animals properly.
  • Monitor sales and margin reports for business insights.
  • Lead and coach PCC partners to provide quality service and perform tasks effectively.
  • Ensure proper partner scheduling for peak hours and stock goals.
  • Apply talent management skills in recruiting, hiring, training, and succession planning.
  • Provide excellent customer service and product recommendations throughout the PCC.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college courses preferred.
  • At least 1 year of management experience; 2+ years preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in communication, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Strong guest service, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise Operations Specialists & Senior Aquatics Specialists.
  • Support Pet Care Center operations as a Leader on Duty.
Work Environment

This role requires support during key hours, including weekends. Most duties are indoors, with some physical activity involved. Travel may be required.
