Position Overview

The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operation of the Companion Animal Department, driving sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. This role involves coaching and mentoring Pet Care Center partners to support and enhance the guest experience and animal care. Responsibilities include training, developing, supporting scheduling, and leading a high-performing team to meet sales, gross margin, and animal and merchandise shrink targets. The role also involves managing all aspects of the Pet Care Center's business in line with Petco standards and safety procedures.

Position Responsibilities
  • Utilize business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure the health and well-being of live animals according to Petco standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to Veterinary Protocols for all sick animals.
  • Process transactions to provide a great guest experience.
  • Support guest interactions and support our selling model.
  • Implement and execute Companion Animal Operations and Aquatics through training and coaching.
  • Order live animals efficiently to maximize sales, margin, and inventory.
  • Maintain operational standards in the department.
  • Ensure animal-related maintenance tasks are completed.
  • Maintain high presentation standards in aquatics and companion animal areas.
  • Partner with merchandising to ensure proper stock levels.
  • Handle and document all Adoption Animals properly.
  • Analyze sales and margin reports to inform decisions.
  • Lead, provide feedback, and coach team members to deliver quality service.
  • Ensure proper partner scheduling to meet in-stock and guest service goals.
  • Apply talent management skills in recruiting, hiring, training, and development.
  • Provide excellent service to guests by sharing product knowledge and suggesting appropriate merchandise.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college courses preferred.
  • At least 1 year of management experience; 2+ preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in communication, organization, and computer skills.
  • Strong customer service, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise Operations Specialists & Senior Aquatics Specialists.
  • Support Pet Care Center operations as a Leader on Duty.
Work Environment

This role requires support during key hours, including weekends. Most duties are indoors, with some outdoor activities. The position involves physical activity, including lifting and standing for long periods, with some travel required.

Contacts

This position involves regular contact with guests, team members, and external vendors for various operational needs.
