Job summary

University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a Laboratory Technician 1 in Animal Resources. The role involves maintaining animal colonies, obtaining samples, and assisting with procedures under protocols and federal guidelines. A valid Nevada driver's license is required, and pre-employment screening applies.

Work hours are typically Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with potential weekend/holiday coverage during essential operations. This position is classified staff and open until filled.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
• A valid Class “C” Nevada driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
• Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Pre-employment screening for controlled substances is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain production colonies of multiple strains for various animal species and obtain blood and tissue samples.
• Anesthetize, euthanize, restrain animals, and handle them in accordance with protocol requirements.
• Set up procedure rooms, assist with advanced procedures, maintain equipment, and monitor animal health and welfare.
