Job summary

Gwinnett County Government is seeking an Intake Coordinator to oversee the Animal Intake Program, including the Return to Community Cat initiative, intake triage, and thorough documentation. The role requires coordinating with residents and internal teams to ensure efficient operations and compliant procedures.

The position emphasizes collaboration, health and behavior assessments, and efforts to prevent unnecessary surrenders by guiding owners to available resources and referrals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, health and human services, or senior services is required.
• Four years of animal control experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of supervisory experience.
• A valid driver’s license and CPR/First Aid certification within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Managing and coordinating the Return to Community Cat Program, including scheduling, intake, and release procedures; accurate documentation; and communication with Gwinnett County residents.
• Completing and overseeing intake triage on all animals entering the facility, including assessment of health, behavior, injuries, illness, and potential infectious disease concerns.
• Working with pet owners to prevent unnecessary surrenders by identifying reasons and providing referrals or support.
• Documenting all intake information in animal records and databases, including owner information, animal history, identification, medical concerns, and disposition.
• Collaborating with Leadership, Animal Care, Enforcement, Foster, Rescue, and other teams to ensure proper assessment, housing, and transfer of animals.
