Description

If you have six (6) months of customer contact and animals handling experience, come work for the Animal Services Shelter. Please ensure your animal care experience is reflected in your application.

Position Overview :

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kennels and related areas; receive, feed, care for, and/or perform euthanasia on animals; assist the public with claiming or adopting animals; and perform related duties as required.

This is a per-diem position, not represented by a union, and does not include benefits. It is used to fill vacancies as they occur.

Animal lover with a genuine interest in animal care and providing excellent service to the Hayward community.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Feed, care for, evaluate behavior, adopt, redeem, and euthanize impounded animals.
  • Receive animals, isolate those showing signs of disease, vaccinate, and administer medication under veterinarian instructions.
  • Assist public with questions, provide adoption and care advice.
  • Clean and disinfect kennels, maintain records, report health issues, and manage supplies.
  • Lift animals weighing up to seventy-five pounds.
  • Perform related tasks as required.

Core Competencies :

Knowledge of : Care and feeding of animals.

Ability to : Establish positive relationships, communicate effectively, follow policies, perform basic math, learn humane euthanasia, identify breeds, handle frightened or fractious animals, work with chemicals, tolerate noisy and odorous environments, perform physical labor, work rotating shifts including holidays and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Six months of customer contact experience and six months of animal handling experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class C California Driver's License.
