Performs semi-skilled work supporting the daily operations of the animal shelter through cleaning, feeding, providing animal enrichment, and related tasks as assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Animal Services Shelter Manager.

Knowledge of laws governing domestic animal care as per NC General Statutes and County Animal Control Ordinances. Knowledge of animal health and safety procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
This work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. It requires standing, walking, using hands, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, speaking, hearing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and repetitive motions. Occasional sitting is also required. The work environment may involve exposure to wet, humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, outdoor weather, extreme temperatures, bloodborne pathogens, and loud noise. Personal protective equipment may be necessary.
High school diploma or GED, with moderate experience caring for animals, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to obtain Certified Rabies Vaccinator certification within 12 months of employment. Valid driver's license.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
