Job summary

The City and County of Denver's Denver Animal Protection is seeking a Behavior and Care Technician II to provide essential animal care and participate in behavioral evaluations at the Denver Animal Shelter. The role requires compassion, attention to health, and teamwork in a busy shelter environment.

Expect varied shifts with 4/10s or 5/8s, opportunities to contribute to enrichment programs, and duties that may include on-call responses during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Two years of animal care experience in a related setting.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Commitment to science-based, fear-free handling.
• Euthanasia certification or ability to obtain within six months.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a busy environment with changing needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care and maintain a safe, clean shelter environment for all animals.
• Care for dogs, cats, small mammals, reptiles, birds, and barnyard animals.
• Perform intake exams and administer vaccines/medications as needed.
• Contribute to behavioral evaluations and enrichment programs.
• Document observations and inventory in computer systems.
• Provide guidance and training to volunteers and staff.
• Participate in emergency preparedness and response duties.
