Position: Anesthesia Technician

The Anesthesia Technician assists in the OR suites and off-floor sites in administering patient care as directed by the Anesthesiologist. Responsibilities include setting up, moving, preparing, and maintaining all anesthesia machines, equipment, and supplies for the Anesthesiologist.

Additional duties involve assisting with invasive and non-invasive monitoring, participating in the orientation, training, and education of new personnel, and maintaining a safe and aseptic environment for all patients. The technician performs all related duties as assigned, adhering to the standards of nursing care and the policies of the Department of Anesthesiology.

Reporting Structure

The Anesthesia Technician reports to the Certified Anesthesia Technician Supervisor and the Chief CRNA.

Requirements for Hire

• Two years of anesthesia support experience or EMT-B certification
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Requirements for Continued Employment

• EMT-B, CMA, CCMA, or CNA certification required within 24 months of hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Experience

• Required: One year of healthcare experience
• Preferred: One year of clinical experience in Recovery, ICU, Emergency Room, Operating Room, or Medical/Surgical Unit

Education/Training

• Required: High School diploma or equivalent; successful completion and certification/licensure in EMT-Basic Program, Medical Assistant program, or State-recognized CNA program (required within 24 months of hire)
• Preferred: Associate's Degree or coursework in biological sciences

• Follows the anesthesia providers’ orders, standards, and guidelines
• Must be highly motivated, self-directed, and capable of functioning in a stressful, fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
• Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
• Physical activities include lifting 20-50 lbs, prolonged standing, bending, walking, climbing, reaching, and repetitive motions
• Mental and sensory skills include strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, reading, and logical thinking
• Must handle a fast-paced environment, multiple priorities, customer interactions, and adapt to change
• Rotating shifts required
